Train Wreck by Glen Phillips
This song title summed up how I felt after Halloween weekend. A train wreck. Partied a little too hard on that weekend and it hurt me for days.
Edge of the Moon by Xavier Rudd
A little Xavier always makes me smile.
Coma Therapy by Strata
I really wish this band was still together. They were so good and amazing live. This song is just haunting and beautiful. "I've got nothing left to lose but my memories of you..."
Stranger in a Strange Land by 30 Seconds to Mars
Motivated me while I did the NaNoWriMo Challenge which I epically failed at AGAIN.
Mama's Broken Heart by Miranda Lambert
November was the land of break ups for my friends. "Lil Sis" Tracy declared this her break up song and played it loudly for me and another co-worker one day. Tracy's going to be just fine in the end.
Days/Months/Years by Butch Walker
If I had gone through a break up in November, I told Tracy this would have been my break up song. Butch just does it right.
End Transmission by A.F.I.
When I hear this song, I want to get into my car, turn the radio to 11 and drive fast. Luckily, November was great weather wise and allowed me at least to turn the radio to 11!
Fault Line by The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Love, love, love this song. Maybe one of my favorites from BRMC.
Another Memory by Thornley
Great little Canadian band founded from the ashes of Big Wreck. Just a great song.
Bass Trap by U2
Just a great tune to chill out too.
Skin Tight by Scissor Sisters
I just adore this band and I dig this song. A little song that makes you shake you booty.
Pass At Me by Timbaland featuring Pitbull
Thanks to Boomer playing this in the office next to me, I have another shake ya ass dance song to rock too. I don't know why, but I just like Pitbull. This makes me want to get onto a dance floor and salsa the night away.
Get It Right by Gareth Asher featuring Nappy Roots
Gareth does Gareth the only way Gareth can...being amazing. He remixed his own song and made a great song even better.
Naked by Opiate for the Masses
"Sitting numb on your throne, how weak your kingdom has grown, I'm going to be the straw that finally breaks it. Once a reflection of you, now you're a fraction of this. When tables turn the world is recreated." Enough said.
Bama Breeze by Jimmy Buffett
This song reminds me of my favorite watering hole The Gin Mill. Just like this song, The Gin Mill is family.
Defying Gravity by Jimmy Buffett (from Encores)
Jimmy dedicates this song to a friend who has passed away and says, "I think all you do in situations like that you carry on like how you know they would want you to do it." I have heard this version over a dozen times, but it connected with me. Just do the one who has left this world proud.
Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move on by Jimmy Buffett
This song is a constant reminder to me 2 things: THE TIME IS NOW and to Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On.
Super Bass by Nicki Manaj
Thank God for my youngest niece, Taylor, and her comedic ways. This 2 year old loves this song and has the best dance moves to it. I hear it, I think of her.
Circle by Donavon Frankenreiter
A fantastic cover of Eddie Brickell.

The Magic of Datsyuk
They say 13 is an unlucky number but if you're Pavel Datsyuk, then 13 is nothing but lucky with a lot of hard work tossed in.
Here is one of the many reasons Datsyuk is magical on the ice.

Mummies of the World
I am geekily excited to see this exhibit @ Discovery Place (now through April 12, 2012).I know you're probably thinking, mummies? Really?
And no, I'm not talking about the Brendan Fraser movies either.
I'm talking about REAL LIFE.
REAL MUMMIES!
Where else am I going to get to see a real Egyptian mummy.
NO WHERE ELSE I tell you. NO WHERE ELSE.
Here is the description for Mummies of the World (taken from Discovery Place's website:)
Mummies of the World is the largest exhibition of mummies and related artifacts ever assembled, made its southern U.S. premiere at Discovery Place on 11.11.11. This compelling collection, presented with reverence and dignity, includes ancient mummies and important artifacts from Asia, Oceania, South America, Europe, as well as ancient Egypt, dating as far back as 6,500 years.
Everyone has see the Mask of Tutankhamun's mummy but have you seen this mummy?
This is "THE TATTOO WOMAN"
You can obviously see her tattoos, but what's her story? What were the meanings, if any, behind her tattoos? She was obviously buried with love and care. Did she die at an early time in her life?

There is also this Chilean Mummy:
Why was he or she placed this way to rest for the rest of the existence on earth? What did he/she die of?

It is going to be completely amazing for me to learn their stories. There is so much we don't know about out there. Through their deaths, may we learn. Through their deaths, may we see how the past was and how much we have evolved as a human race.
To learn more about Mummies of the World and to get tickets to visit on your own to go http://mummies.discoveryplace.org/
I will have a full recap on Monday of my visit this weekend. I can't wait!!!!
RECAP
On Friday, I wrote about Mummies of the World and how freaking excited I was to be going to the exhibit @ Discovery Place.
Let me tell you...IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT.
I arrived close to 2 pm and was bouncing off the walls with excitement. I know it's crazy that I could be excited to see "a bunch of dead people wrapped in cloth," but I am inquisitive by nature. I ask questions, I wonder, I ponder, and I want to know things.
I probably should have been a detective or scientist or even gone with my first dream to be an astronaut.
I didn't do any of that so exhibits like MUMMIES OF THE WORLD become my playground for my questions and creative brain.
It took me 2 hours to go through the exhibit. Don't freak out. I thought I was moving at a healthy pace through the exhibit and it really only felt like an hour. There is so much to do, read, look at, study, and so on. If you go through, make sure you read the things on the on wall, on the exhibits themselves, and do the touchscreen interactive programs too. They are so amazing and filled with so much knowledge you kind of feel like you're in your own episode of CSI.
I often found myself walking around the artifact or mummy several times. Looking at it from every angle I could and staring at it, hoping that it suddenly would tell me it's story.
Why was there nail color on one mummy but the one who was supposedly a high ranking official looked a little less cared for at burial? Why did the South Americans board their children's head? What happened to the toes of this mummy? Why did the "bog dog" die where he was found?
I still don't know the significant meaning of The Tattoo Woman's tattoos and I still don't know what The Chilean Mummy died of.
I left with more questions than answers.
I think my two favorite mummies were The Detmold Child. It's a Peruvian baby around 10 months old. It is 6,500 years old and predates King Tut by 3000 yrs and the Iceman by 1000. I was in the presence of 6,500 year old PIECE OF HISTORY!! How f'n cool is that? And if you want to know exactly how old 6,500 yrs is. The Detmold Child is carbon dated between the years of 4504 and 4457 BC. BC as in BEFORE CHRIST. My second favorite mummy was of a woman who was put to rest holding the teeth of baby. Were they her own baby teeth? Were they the teeth of one of her children? Why was she buried the way she was? There was something about that particular mummy that haunted me the most. I wanted to know her entire story but I could only know what mummyologist could give me with the technology we have. Click HERE to see a picture of her.
All in all, MUMMIES OF THE WORLD was an amazing exhibit. I might have left with more questions than answers but I also left with a bit more knowledge the past and of cultures I could only dream of.
I HIGHLY suggest going to see this exhibit. It truly is amazing and is filled with history and beauty.

Baby Says
I have been a fan of The Kills for a while and Blood Pressures is one of my favorite CDs by them. The video for "Baby Says" totally works for the song. The feeling of sadness in both matches.

These girls are my friends, my sisters, and my family. We have laughed together. We have cried together. We have celebrated births. We have remembered the ones we have lost. There is a reason The Gin Mill is home and that's because our little sisterhood was made there.
Last night, as we celebrated my birthday, I celebrated their friendship

ONE MONTH!!!
Or 30 days, however you wish to look at it, we will be in Oz. I wish I could explain my excitement/anxiety but I can't. One month from today, I will be boarding a plane on a trip of a lifetime with 2 very awesome ladies. I imagine that the only things I will think about for the next couple of weeks will be Aussie boys, blue waters, and what the hell I'm gonna do if I get stung by a giant jellyfish or eaten by a salt water crocodile.? Oh well...to celebrate one month of our countdown, I am posting a most awesome video. Enjoy!!!

Nickelback: Here And Now
I will call myself a music lover. I appreciate all music. Classical, jazz, rock, country, and I've even got some Top 40 and Rap on my ipod. My friends come to me for musical suggestions.
If there is a guilty pleasure for me, then it is Nickelback.
ROLL YOUR EYES NOW and INSERT JOKE OF YOUR CHOICE.
I first saw Nickelback @ an Uptown Festival around 2000. I was actually waiting for Parliment Funkadelic to come on 3 hours later and since I wasn't a Widespread Panic fan, we just hung out the stage and watched the bands on it. Jack and Kristen were even on site doing a broadcast. It was before I became "The Rock Goddess." Nickelback played to about 50 people. 15 probably cared about them & the other 35 were there working or just waiting for the next band. My friend and I were impressed with them. They just rocked out a set for the 15 people that care about them and played like 50,000 people were there. A few weeks later, I picked up The State on CD. I really liked it so I went through a Canadian music site and picked up Curb and through Ebay and grabbed Hesher. Roughly 6-8 months later, Nickelback played with Three Doors Down at Tremont and the show was sold out.
Fast foward to now and Nickelback is one of the most hated yet loved bands around. Fans of their music come out in droves. People who don't like them don't want their music played at sporting games, on the radio, and so on.
Whatever it is that makes people love or hate Nickelback, the have found the formula on how to write a hit song.
My own friends will more than likely disown me after this post, but if they can have Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, etc as their guilty pleasure, then I can have Nickelback as mine but I can't even say it's guilty.
I really do like their music. The ones that aren't played on the radio like "Side of a Bullet" from All the Right Reasons written for Dimebag Darrell. The guitar is loud, crunchy, and the song is an angry rant about revenge. The State was my favorite Nickelback CD until Here and Now. This CD has great bass riffs, dirty guitars, and you know what, the band just knows how to write a f**king catchy song.
And I'm not going to lie, any song about drinking ("Bottoms Up") is good for me. Jimmy Buffett makes a liviing off of it. Trust me, I know. I own EVERY SINGLE BUFFETT ALBUM. Hell, even country stars Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band are trying to makei their marks as artists with drinking songs.
So here's my review of Here and Now:
1. This Means War
I love the bass in this song. I am a drum and bass girl. It's usually the first thing I notice and then the lyrics. It made it to my "F**k Off" playlist. My favorite song on the CD.
2. Bottoms Up
Drinking song. It's on my drinking playlist.
3. When We Stand Together
Easily, an anthem of the human race joining together to fight for something better. (Yes, even if it means banning together to fight against Nickelback)
4. Midnight Queen
Besides the sick bass in this song, I am instantly thrown back back to the dirty rock lyrics of the glam hair metal days. Double entendre galore! It's also damn catchy. Rock hit.
5. Gotta Get Me Some
A future stripper song. Great bass. Drinking, sex, and hey guess what, it's got Chad's signature chorus. This will be a rock hit.
6. Lullaby
Slow song. Lyrically, I like this song. A song about not giving up. I am putting this on my nieces playlist. Songs I would dedicate to them for when they feel like there is no one around.
7. Kiss It Goodbye
Another signature song from Nickelback. I dig the chorus, the bass, and the guitar. I like the lyrics "East coast digs the cocaine. West coast marijuana. Don't be surprised when you swallow all your pride It's tough to see through bulls**t, when it's up above your eyes."
8. Trying Not to Love You
Ballad. Many a fool will play this at their wedding or when they are trying to get the one back. I'm not a fan of Nickelback's ballads.
9. Holding on to Heaven
This might not be a ballad but this is along the vein of a Someday feel.
10. Everything I Wanna Do
I'm not a fan of this song. It's a combo of some of the above. Almost a filler song of left over parts of the other songs that were decent. I also cannot take any song that includes "K-I-S-S-I-N-G, sitting in a tree" serious. Soulja Boy(sp?) supposedly helped write this song.
11. Don't Ever Let It End
This song made me think of "Something Like That" by Tim McGraw the way the story unfolds. Top 40 will eat this song up.

Getting it Right
My friendship with Gareth Asher started when his band Illbreak played Weenie Roast 10 on September 11, 2005 and was sealed over a Click-It-Sharpie.
6 years later, we are still friends and I am always amazed by Gareth. His music and lyrics are soulful, beautiful, and amazing. There are songs that are haunting and reflective, songs of love that is lost, and songs that just remind one to not worry. His wise soul and spirit is such a beauty to have on this earth. I'm honored to know him and to support him.
I've seen Gareth live more times than I can count on two hands and each show is always more brilliant than the last and I always enjoy discovering what cover he's going to do next which is often better than the original.
His last album Between the Smiles and the Tears and last EP Love Will Come to You in Return helped heal my heart and soul when my mother died in 2009. The songs just reminded me to take a deep breath and just put one foot forward.
Below is a reissue of his song "Can We Get it Right" from Between the Smiles and the Tears. I thought the song was damn near perfect, but as only Gareth can do, he topped himself and made the song even more brilliant than before.
So watch the video and really listen to the lyrics. Together, we CAN GET IT RIGHT
Gareth - thank you for your wonderful music. The world is a better place because you make others want to do better things!

Play Like You Want to Win
Last night during the Flyers/Lightning game there was what I would call "wait and see and stand around on the ice" moment when the Flyers in possession and control of the puck just hung out in their zone. Kind of standing there like, come get me.
Twitter blew up with tweets about it, blogs are being written about it (like this one), announcers commented, and so on.Things that were being thrown out on the interwebs (yes, I know that's slang) was NHL needs a shot clock, it needs this, it needs that.
It doesn't need any of that.
Shame on the Lightning for skating around like a bunch of figure skaters too delicate to attack. They did win in OT, but how bad was that win wanted if you are just going to stand there and try to stare down your opponent.
Congrats to the Flyers for seeing what their opponent was worth. They saw that the Lightning weren't hungry enough to go after them.
Hockey isn't standing around like basketball and watch a bouncing a ball. It's fast moving and attacking. There should never be a moment when the player gets to stand in the middle of the ice going what next. The only place you should be able to stand is behind the goalie as your line changes and even that's not too long.
There, that's my 2 cents.
Shoot the puck!

34 Days...Still Counting Down
Last evening, the Boomerang Babes got together to bond and discuss Australia.
We've discovered that we have enough "travel" to go bags than we will probably need. We all agreed on what adventures we definitely wanted to do, what we could do with out, and set the expectations of the trip.
Expectations: do all that we can within the time we have and within our budgets.
It was a great evening with friends, a few drinks, and dinner. I can see us doing the same thing while watching the sunset on some beach somewhere on the coast or watching the stars come alive somewhere in the Outback.
It will be a learning experience for us all. It will be a journey full of laughter, shenanigans, fun, and probably a fight or two, but we will come back better than we left (if possible) and wiser.
I have officially started counting down the days. My head drifts between daydreaming and work.
The Southern Invasion begins soon...Australia, you have been warned.
Love,
~Shelia

UPDATE: My Birthday Wish
On October 17th, I made this Birthday Wish and set up a link but that link failed to work properly due to frames on the site, technical speak, technical speak.
But I've corrected that, you now can donate to the Birthday Gifts/Donations to Australia at http://sheliataylor.bbnow.org/
Just enter how much you'd like to donate and follow the instructions. It will take you to Pay Pal ant it's all secure as well. Of course, if you prefer not to use the online system, you can donate to me in person as well.
And to those that are giving:
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY GIFT.
YOU'RE HELPING MAKE ONE OF MY DREAMS COME TRUE.
I AM TRULY TOUCHED BY YOUR KINDNESS.
And in honor of Australia, I'd like to leave this quote with you:

NaNoWriMo Moment
My first post about National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) was in 2008 and I have been participating in NaNoWriMo since 2004 and in those SEVEN years, I have failed to reach my 50,000 word goal. TWO out of those seven years, I did complete a novel but not in the one month time frame. I look at it as "not so bad."
Two days into NaNoWriMo, I'm on pace where I should be and I could not be more proud of myself. Normally, I come into this challenge already talking myself into defeat.
This year, I wanted it to be different. Somewhere last night while running, which murdered my poor shins, something inside clicked. Something said, you can do this run. It's not going to be easy, but you can run this route you've been walking for months now. Though I didn't run the route 100%, I did run the route about 85%. I winced through the shin pain, the cramps, and pinky toe that was falling asleep. I was proud of myself.
I took that pride with me to the writing desk. For a moment, I just sat there staring at the last few words that I had written and asked myself NOW WHAT? Where were these characters going? What did I want them to do? What did I want from them?
To tell you the truth, I had no clue how to answer those questions. NONE.
I sat and thought a moment more and then said fuck it, just write. Write whatever you want the characters to say, do, or feel. Just write. It doesn't have to be right. It just needs to be written.
So I wrote...and I wrote. I made up the Day One Deficit of NaNoWriMo and put myself about 200 words for Day Three.
It wasn't perfect. It definitely isn't pretty, but there was an audible click in my head, my heart, and in my spirit. I found my writing again. (I know I've said that several times already here on this site, but this time, I mean it.).
This story will be told. December 1st, come hell or high water, this story will be complete.

40 Days To Go
Holy cow...
40 days to go...
Holy cow.
And it really does just seem like yesterday that I was daydreaming and talking about my plans to go to Australia and NOW it's just a mere 40 days away.
I still can't believe it's going to be finally happening. Suzanne and Heather are in their stages of preparing/planning mode and freaking out mode. I have already been through where they are currently at. I can't prepare/plan/freak out anymore.
There is no going back. In 40 days, I'm boarding a Delta flight to Sydney, Australia. I've worried about the money, the places to stay, the getting to point A to point B, the what if scenarios, and made up enough crazy ideas to scare Wes Craven into romantic comedies.
I now know, that whatever will happen, will happen. Whatever does happen good or bad is suppose to happen. It will make me stronger and a better person. The lessons I learn while in Australia for 21 days will never be forgotten but more importantly, the journey I'm about to embark on will change my life forever.
It's a journey I'm ready to take.
Australia. Let's. Do. This.
